Due to an overhead glass breakage, this TfL site had to close a number of elevators to the underside of the atrium due to risks to persons below. Limited O+M information and tight access restraints meant the client required a specialist glazing contractor experienced in high level glass replacements.
Sky Access were instructed to undertake works with the task to procure replacement glazing with a bespoke frit design whilst also developing a safe system of work to both access the structure and undertake repairs. Prior to works commencing, we manufactured a bespoke sample panel with multiple frit opacity levels for client approval.
With a history of undertaking high level glazing replacements, the Sky Access team put together a safe system of work with the client to both access the fractured glazing but also safely replace. This method required a variety of access methods to work together including rope access and internal / external gantry systems. Additional protection was required internally and externally during removal due to the fractured external face of the horizontal glass.
Using a variety of specialist vacuum lifters and a city crane, our Technicians safely removed and replaced the existing glazing in a tight timescale working within engineering hours at night. Works were completed to the satisfaction of both the client and the TfL team in attendance and works were signed off with positive feedback from all involved.
