After struggling to find a high level glazing contractor - Sky Access UK were called to this Central London commercial office to undertake this difficult access, high level glass replacement.
The site was located directly adjacent to a TFL compound with the adjacent main road a designated red route. This led to a few logistical challenges that our initial site survey needed to address. Our initial pre-lim attendance to measure the glass required the team to remove the existing shattered glass pane for safety reasons due to a high footfall pathway beneath the works area.
Our Projects Team sourced O+M information detailing the existing glass specification to ensure and replacement glazing matched the existing. This was sourced by our Procurement team from our glass manufacturing partner in Central Europe.
To save our client the considerable costs associated with road closure of a red route, we liaised with TFL to secure permission to position a crane in their compound to conduct the high level glass replacement works. Access to the glazing face was supplied by our IRATA High Level Glazing teams with weight packs positioned at roof level. A full pavement closure was put in place after liaising with the local council.
Using the crane and a specialist Vacuum suction lifter, our IRATA trained Rope Access Technicians commenced with conducting the replacement of the two defective glazed units at height. During works, our teams photographed and logged the process for a post works client report.
