Our client had a variety of fractured glazed units at height in the airside environment which required replacement. Sky Access were contact due to our specialism in working at height and undertaking high level glass replacements to assist with the project.
Working in an airside environment requires a large amount of coordination and planning in order to ensure all stakeholders are happy with the plan for works to proceed. The project was complicated with all glass units being oversized and weighing over 250KG each.
Working in close conjunction with our client and the airport operator, the Sky Access team put together a comprehensive schedule of works allowing our client to plan and isolate the areas of the airside environment required. This involved working in night time engineering hours with a tight four hour time limit for each replacement.
Due to the size and weight of the glass, we utilised a combination of a spider crane and small MEWP to allow works to be undertaken within a minimal footprint and ultimately causing the minimal disruption to client airside operations. We also purchased a new flat bed vehicle specifically with the task for this project to safely transport glass to and from site with minimal requirements to move.
Works were safely completed to the satisfaction of our client and the airport operator exactly to the provided schedule.
